Professor Janine Wichmann has been a member of the School of Health Systems and Public Health, University of Pretoria for nearly a decade. Her academic background in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical pathology, biostatistics, epidemiology and public health equip her with a unique set of skills that distinguishes her research from other researchers in South Africa. Her research contributes knowledge to estimate the burden of non-communicable disease due to air pollution in South Africa and neighbouring countries whilst training the next generation of researchers.

 

Prof. Wichmann presented numerous oral and poster presentations at national and international conferences and published widely in scientific journals. She actively communicates her research findings to the general public. Some of these popular science articles were featured by the World Economic Forum. She has nearly 20 years’ teaching experience at UP and also developed and lectured in masters degree courses at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. She is serving on the editorial board of Inhalation Toxicology.
