Dr Luciana Balboa is an Infectious Diseases researcher at the Instituto de Investigaciones Biomédicas en Retrovirus y Sida (INBIRS – Institute for Biomedical Research on Retroviruses and AIDS), which belongs to CONICET (Argentinian National Council for Scientific and Technical Research) and to the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Her team aims to contribute to the improvement of our basic knowledge of the immune response against Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the causative agent of tuberculosis. She created the first French-Argentine International Associate Laboratory dedicated to the study of tuberculosis, especially in the context of HIV co-infection. She is a member of the Global Young Academy (GYA). In her role at GYA, she co-led the launch of the Latin America Science Leadership Program, which supports early-career researchers in the region by providing them with leadership tools, and co-chairs the Science Diplomacy in the Americas Working Group. She was also co-chair in the Young Academy of Argentina (2022-2024). In a recent development in 2024, she joined the steering board of the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment, highlighting her unwavering dedication to involving young Latin American researchers in pivotal discussions and initiatives worldwide.
