Karina Batthyány is the Executive Director of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO). Doctor in Sociology, she is a Professor of the Department of Sociology of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Universidad de la República (Uruguay) and an advisor to several international organizations. She is a member of the Governing Board of the ISC (International Science Council), member of the National Research System of Uruguay, member of the National Academy of Sciences of Uruguay (ANCIU), and member of The Immanuel Wallerstein Chair of the Center for Advanced Studies of the Faculty of Social Sciences, National University of Córdoba, Argentina, and the Institut für Sozialforschung, Frankfurt am Main (IfS-UNC).
She is the author of numerous publications on the topics of social welfare, gender, public policies, unpaid work and care. Her publications include the books: The Care Society and the Politics of Life (2024), The Challenges of the Social Sciences in the Latin American Conjuncture (2023), Let's Talk About Inequality (2022), Care Policies (2021) and Latin American Looks at Care (2020).
