Atish Dabholkar is Director of ICTP and ADG/UNESCO. He is a theoretical physicist working in the field of string theory, black holes, and holography. He received his PhD in theoretical physics from Princeton University under the supervision of Jeffrey Harvey. He obtained his master's in physics from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. Dabholkar is the recipient of the 2006 Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, the highest Indian science prize awarded by the Prime Minister of India.
Abstract
Abstract:ICTP is a unique international hub for science making advanced science globally available, overcoming the barriers of gender, ethnicity, or geography. It has been a successful model for international scientific cooperation with a mission that remains even more relevant today. As the Centre celebrates its 60th anniversary, it looks to harness its significant international network of scientists and its considerable scientific expertise to address pressing world challenges, including climate change, sustainable energy and open access to new technologies.
