Daniel Fernando Filmus holds a degree in Sociology from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA, Argentina) and a Master's degree in Education from the Federal University of Fluminense, Brazil, specializing in Adult Education (CREFAL, Mexico). Currently, he is the Director of the Ibero-American Center for Research in Science, Technology and Innovation (CIICTI), researcher of CONICET, and regular professor of sociology at the UBA. Former Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (2021-2023), former Minister of Education, Science and Technology (2003-2007), National Senator (2007-2013) and National Deputy (2017-2019). He served as director of the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO, 1992-2000).

He was also a member of the Executive Council of UNESCO (2007-2011). He has published several books and essays, the most recent being “Forty years of democracy: achievements, difficulties and challenges in the construction of State policies in Science, Technology and Innovation” (2024, forthcoming) and “¡Outside! The role of education and science in anarcho-capitalism” (2024) as editor, and among which stand out for their relevance “Educating for a more fair society. Debates and challenges of the National Education Law” (2012), “Increasingly necessary, increasingly insufficient. High school and labor market in times of globalization” (2001) and “State, Society and Education. Process and challenges” (1996).

He was twice awarded by the National Academy of Education (1995 & 2000, Argentina), received the “Latin American Order of Social Sciences” for his contribution to the processes of regional integration and educational development in Latin America and the Caribbean (2010, Brazil), was awarded with the “Ordre des Palmes Académiques” (2004, France), received the “Jan Amos Comenius Medal” in recognition of outstanding achievements in the field of educational research and innovation (2008, UNESCO), received the “Order of Rio Branco” in the Degree of Commander (2003, Brazil) and was decorated with the “Gabriel Mistral” Order of Teaching and Cultural Merit in the rank of Grand Officer (2004, Chile).
