Undersecretary Gainza studied sociology and received her master’s degree in Latin American studies from the Universidad de Chile and her doctorate in Hispanic languages and literature from the University of Pittsburgh.

She has investigated diverse aspects of Latin America’s digital culture and in 2018 she published the book Narrativas y Poéticas Digitales en América Latina. Producción literaria en el capitalismo informacional (Digital Poetry and Narratives in Latin America. Literary production in IT capitalism).

She was one of the founders of the Asociación de Investigadores en Artes y Humanidades and was on its board of directors for five years.

She is the daughter of Pedro Gainza and Mirna Cortés. She has three sisters and two children, Nicolás and Eloisa.
