Bálint Hartmann is a research engineer mainly interested in the topological properties, the evolutionary processes of transmission and distribution networks and how the previous affect the vulnerability of the system. Other focal points of his work are the role of energy storage in the power system, the integration of variable renewable energy sources and the computer modelling and simulation of distribution networks and islanded systems.

At the HUN-REN Centre for Energy Research he leads the Energy Strategy and Environmental Effects research group, focusing on power system security, electric power systems, energy meteorology and climatology, energy statistics, building and urban energy. He also holds a part-time position at Budapest University of Technology and Economics as a senior research fellow with the Department of Electric Power Engineering.
