Katalin Solymosi is a plant biologist and habilitated assistant professor at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Eötvös Loránd University. Her research focuses on the functional, organisational, developmental, structural and metabolic diversity of plant and algal plastids, in particular in the context of sustainable agriculture and climate change (e.g. by improving our understanding on how different stress factors such as salt or drought stress affect the function of plastids and thus plant metabolism, development and growth). She is also active in national and international science policy and science-for-policy (i.e. science advice). She is a member of the Presidential Committee of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences dedicated to Women in Science and was a founding member and Co-chair of the Hungarian Young Academy. She is a fellow of the International Science Council and the Outgoing Chair of the Young Academy of Europe. She is devoted to science outreach activities by participation in related events (e.g. European Researchers' Nights, European Museums' Nights, Fascination of Plants Day), by active dissemination of research data, and by organizing Art&Science type of events (i.e. exhibitions from microscopic images).
