The Steering Committee of WSF 2019 held its first meeting on 10 July at ESOF 2018 in Toulouse, France. Members agreed that the 2019 World Science Forum will take place between 20 and 23 November in Budapest focusing on the Ethics and Responsibility of Science as its main theme.

2017 Jordan Science For Peace Declaration underlines the 8th World Science Forum’s commitment to the responsible and ethical use of scientific knowledge in addressing the great challenges of humankind, more equitable use of natural and human resources and commits to promote diversity in science. Participants pledge to create a regional science forum for the Arab World.

“The spread of fake news had already presented a serious danger back in the first decades of the Academy’s existence and this is still true if not more so today,” said Mr. László Lovász in Jordan, during the 8th World Science Forum’s thematic session on science-based advice. Éva Kondorosi, Vice President of the ERC (European Research Council), spoke about disadvantages female researchers may encounter at their workplaces.

The National Task Force of World Science Forum met today to discuss planning and progress for the biggest science event ever to take place in the Middle East.

Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, President of the Royal Scientific Society of Jordan and Chair of WSF 2017, hosted a high level informal gathering at the AAAS Annual Meeting in Boston to present the themes of the upcoming WSF in Jordan and the Arab legacy of innovation and adaptation across the centuries.
